22/12/2005:Corrected a programming error in bcb.js.
I know I said it would be January 2006 before I updated, but an emergency has emerged - I programmed the resizable barcodes incorrectly and the guard bars at the ends were too thick. I have corrected this now.
Merry Christmas, unless you don't celebrate...
20/12/2005:Updated nearly half the site.
Merry Christmas, everybody! This will be my last update before Christmas, and you probably won't see any more updates.
Ever.
Until 04/01/06. Still, I have slightly upgraded the Barcode Generator again, added details about the Legend of Zelda barcodes, and I have added a very vain present amongst the Downloads section. You may find other surprises amongst the site too. I don't know, I've lost track. It's been a long week.
So, Merry Christmas, or if you don't celebrate Christmas for whatever reason, enjoy yourselves over the "Holiday Season", and I'll see you in the new year. Unless you don't see 1st January as the new year. Oh well, there's far too many different cultures for me to say hello to. There's only one thing for it...
12/12/2005:Improved Barcode Generator/Tester on gen.htm
I have started to change the Barcode Generator/Tester this week. The simplified display system seems to work, so I've put it up before the rest is finished.
09/12/2005:Improved Stat Viewer on hero.htm and c2.htm
Added japan.htm

A big change to the Barcode Generator has had to be put on hold this week. However, I have tested part of the upgrade on the Hero and C2 Card viewer.
A new addition is the Japan page. When complete, this will detail all the things which were released only in Japan and neighbouring countries.
Finally, some details which are too vague to add to the Technical page - for any Warrior / Wizard pair, there are 100 valid P-Codes in C2. This could take weeks to fully explore, but it could tell us volumes about the inner workings of the Barcode Battler!
02/12/2005:Improved P-Code Generator on cheats.htm
Updated tech.htm
Updated c2.htm

Another week has passed, and some secrets have been shared - like how to generate your own P-Codes for C2. You'll never need to play C1 again!
Also, I have created the ultimate Wizard. Could this be Emperor Boss?
25/11/2005:Added a true P-Code generator to cheats.htm
I have done it! I have cracked one of the most powerful aspects of the BCB! I have created a P-Code Generator!
22/11/2005:Updated bcb.xls.
Added cheats.htm

I'm going to start looking into the ROM for the SNES game Conveni Wars to see if it gives me any clues. However, I'll need to find a list of SNES CPU commands in hexadecimal first...
21/11/2005:Added Xensyria's cheats faq.htm.
Updated c2.htm.

Time has been even more sparse this week as it was my wife's birthday. How many more excuse do I have? I'm not sure. However, once I have more free time, I'm sure I'll be able to crack the remaining Barcode Battler mysteries wide open!
14/11/2005:Added a P-Code generator to the C1 page.
Added the C2 P-Codes to the C2 page.
Updated bcb.xls.

Sorry for the lack of updates last week everyone, I have been making arrangements to move house. Until things calm down, I will have to do only weekly updates.
07/11/2005:Separated C0, C1, C2, Technical, Custom, Generator, Downloads and Links to separate pages.
Updated bcb.xls.
Updated custom.htm.

I have slightly modified the barcodes for Droome and Darman to see what the effects on ST and DF are. I have had some promising results which point to the 7th digit being the answer, but I must conduct tests on the other Anti-Matter Monsters to be certain.
The group is growing ever bigger - we now have (including myself), two members! I can't wait until it doubles again!
04/11/2005:Seperated Heroes and Items to seperate pages.
Added a link to the Barcode Battler Yahoo Group.

Rumours have started to circulate that a Barcode Battler Yahoo Group has started. Check out the links section of this site.
Also, I have developed a new header. OK, so it looks a bit simple, but I'm a busy man.
My list of unknowns is now as follows -
  • How does the BCB decide which format the barcode should be used (Packaged barcodes work differently to most, but not all other barcodes)?
  • What are the max/min values for all stats in all Eras / both C2 modes?
  • How does the BCB generate P-codes (for use in C2 to power-up your heroes)?
  • How are certain ST/DF stats calculated for Baguza, Darman, Droome and Air Dragon?
03/11/2005:Updated bcb.xls.
Corrected abbreviations and terminology in bcb.js.
Seperated News and FAQs to seperate pages.

I just noticed on 01/11/2005 that this page is listed on Google when you enter "Barcode Battler"! To celebrate, I'll start work on a new layout and some graphics for the page.
After extensive testing, I have discovered the BCB will accept any EAN13/EAN8 compliant barcode as long as it is printed on a surface it can read. Some surfaces seem to be too shiny or not shiny enough. After re-printing more than 15 "rejected" barcodes, the BCB read them all in the expected way. I can therefore say with some certainty that there is no invalid sequence of 12 or 8 numbers.
01/11/2005:Updated bcb.xls.
Corrected abbreviations and terminology.
Corrected Air Dragon's Barcode (Thanks to Xensyria).

I have consolidated the barcode data in bcb.xls to make it easier to search through. It has made the file huge though. I may have to start Zipping it to save space.
Xensyria has made a few suggestions which I have put in place - namely using the right terminology. Gone are the references to "EP, AP & DP", and in are "HP, ST & DF". However, the JS codes need updating, so my old standards may still be visible in places.
31/10/2005:Updated bcb.xls.
Added enemy stat change effects to Technical Stuff.
Re-arranged Technical Stuff.

I am confident I now know how stat reductions are calculated, so I have added the information to this page.
Xensyria and I have been trading theories as to how the rest is worked out.
28/10/2005:Updated bcb.xls.
The full list of things I still need to work out are
  • How does the BCB tell if a barcode is valid?
  • How does the BCB decide which format the barcode should be used (Packaged barcodes work differently to most, but not all other barcodes)?
  • How does the BCB calculate stat reductions?
I'll probably tackle these problems in reverse order...
27/10/2005:Added News and Downloads sections.
Added bcb.xls to the Downloads section.

Hello everyone! I am Tony, and this is my Barcode Battler Website. It has been around since September 2005 (at least 12 years after the Barcode Battler first came out). I feel I am close to unlocking the inner workings of the game program. There are only a few things I need to find out. I'll list them in the next news update!
